I recently had my mother-in-law's 60th birthday and had the same problem with a gift. She has everything and didn't need anything, yet we obviously couldn't not get her anything. We decided to get her a gift certificate for a spa near her house to get a manicure, pedicure, etc. and just feel pampered. She absolutely loved it and talked about it for weeks after the services were done! If you think this is something your mother-in-law would like, I think it is a great gift. I hope this helps.

that sounds great ~ but I understand about the budget. LOL Try 'Things Remembered' it is at the mall ~ I know it is at Somerset & Oakland Mall. It is a great gift shop and you can get things engraved there as well. For my grandparents 50th we got them a picture frame on one side I had a picture of them on there wedding day and the other I had a current picture and we engraved their date and names ~ they loved it. They have all types of gifts in a ton of different price ranges ~ you could do a picture frame with a picture of the kids and you don't even have to get it engraved or you could do a small message. The kids could also finger paint pictures and you could frame them ~ instant beautiful art.

You could always make her a slide show on a CD of all of the grandkids or of the whole family. You can scan the photos in older photos. A gift from the heart. You can also use a service to make a "memory book"-Snap Fish offers a GREAT one. I made my parents a book on their site...it was $50-75, but I made the big book (they have smaller versions for less). It took little time (just upload your photos and drag them on to the pages) and was a HUGE hit. Very sentimental. It shipped in 24-48 hours.

Dig through old pictuers, you may have to ask other family members and do a scrapbook. You can do a 2 page layout for each decade of her life. Decorate the pages with things from that era, and then add in the photos of her.

Example:

then put them into the scrapbook w/ her picture(s) as a baby.

It'd be a really FUN keepsake that she'll love and will cost you quite a bit of time and effort but very little $$

From my experience, grandmothers love getting personal items made by grandchildren. How about taking the children to a pottery place to paint her something she can display. Or have the children do a handpring stepping stone (find the kits at Michaels or Target). These are inexpensive, but meaningful gifts the any grandma would love. Good Luck!

You know, a fantastic mother-in-law, is worth her weight in gold. I'll trade places with you to have a great mother-in-law. Since she does a lot for all of you, that is one time that the budget can wait. Buy her what she really deserves at whatever the cost. It's only twice (including Christmas), a year, that is far less than what she does for you all year. Give her a gift card to her favorite store or restaurant. She's worth it.

How a bout a digital picture frame? Put the pictures on it before you give it to her and all she has to do is plug it in. I love mine! or....how about a year to a botanial garden, or art museum or something that she likes to do?

You could make a small scapbook for her, either of the grandkids or even of her from childhood on, if you could get the pics.

Along the same lines but not too pricy would be the Family Tree by Hallmark. The stand alone tree has little frames that hang from the branches that you can put in photos of your family and the rest of hers as well.

Or go through your old photos and walk through her life. You can copy the photos on a color copier (Kinkos, CopyMax)and make a quick album of the major events (weddings, births, graduations, etc.)

Instead of an album of above, CVS will now do a DVD slide show of photos you bring in for $12.99 but I don't know the turnaround time.

Its so hard to get someone a gift when they already have all the nick-nacks and grandma engraved clothing and all those other little things that seem too easy, but not really knowing what she's interested in, if she's into gambling maybe some instant tickets in a card and a little note or coupon like paper saying lunch date when available or our treat you pick or even a gift cert. to a favorite little diner she may like. Beleaive me my own mother is hard enough to buy for let alone my in-law's. Hope these hints help. Remember it's the thought that counts!

Why not stay on the parents pic idea, just get a picture of her parents to place inside locket on oneside and maybe a pic of your family on the other side. Or a pic of her parents on one side and engraved on the other side something reading "All our love" or maybe her birthdate. Then get her initials engraved on the front.

In alot of the malls they have the little stands that do engraving right on the spot.
