Gift Ideas for Inlaws

My in-laws are going back to Australia tomorrow. I want to buy them a little Thank you gift. They where so sweet while visiting, I just love them so much. Nothing big because they already have enough luggage. I like to shop at Hallmark and Hobby Lobby, but I'm at loss about what to get other than a card. Any suggestions?

If they are meat eaters, Omaha Steaks are great. We do this about every other year for my father-in-law's birthday. They deliver whatever you order in dry ice and they can eat it whenever they want. The best part, they will think of you one night at dinner...

what about sending them a gift basket that arrives the same day they get home? I know Hallmark has gift baskets, and you can include a card with it. Not sure about getting it to Australia, but surely in this day and age that's not a big deal.

I think it would be nice to arrive home to a nice basket and thoughtful sentiment.

If you want to actually send them home with something, my suggestion is you print out a picture from their time here and put it in a frame that says "vacation" or "family" or something of that nature - so you are sending them home with a very real reminder of their trip and a great pic of everyone.

I would write them a letter thanking them for their time out here and laughing about the fun they had ... generations may read this one letter.

Remember, whatever they pack, they must declare and go through export, so I would suggest not to give them food or alcohol to take back as they could be taxed or not allowed to bring it. I agree with the suggestions about a small photo album.

Another option might be is if they enjoy the arts or a particular local attraction, you might want to look at getting tickets to a show or concert in Australia so they can have a relaxing time back at home. I do that a lot with family who live outside of the area.

Hi C.,

HL would have some cute frames. Did you guys take any pictures with them while they were here? I would get a great picture and frame it. If you had time, you could do a little "brag book" of all the great things they did while here. You may want to do that and send it to them later as a nice gift too. They love stuff like this because it is sentimental and they don't have it! Older folks are always so hard to buy for because they have everything, so a momento of your time together is always great!

Good Luck!

Gladys

Try www.sharemykidsart.com. We got the grandparents a calendar and they loved it!

I think a picture of you, your husband and kids in a nice frame would be great. Or a small "brag" album you could put together real quick from say the last year that your mother-in-law could carry in her purse.

If you like Hallmark - that is a great place to buy WIllow Tree figurines. They have great grandparent ones and pretty much anything for "thank you" and "you're special." They will pack nicely (they can keep them in the box you purchase them in). If you've not seen them before, check out this website... www.willow-tree-angel.com

I agree with the other suggestion, order something nice to arrive when they get home that way they don't have to carry it or declare it. Plus it would be a nice "welcome home, but we already miss you" to see when they get there and are probably missing you too. Maybe give them something small in person, pic frame or album, and nice card before they go.

How about a little basket with snack and puzzle books and/or reading for the trip back? A picture of them and your kids would be a nice addition, if you can get it printed time.

Hi C.,

How about something that has "Texas" on it, or even a picture frame with pictures of you and your family in it.

Good luck,
Jacqueline
