Would Appreciate Your Prayers or Kind Thoughts

As you may know, my 23 year old daughter has multiple chronic diseases and disorders. We leave tomorrow morning and will be flying most of the day to the Mayo Clniic (Minnesota) for several days of testing. My daughter is already not feeling well, and traveling is stressful for her My husband can't come with us due to work schedules. So it's up to me to keep things calm and get her up and to the taxi and do all the care-giver details that are necessary when taking a trip. Thankfully my adult son will be able to be in and out of our apartment (he has his own place about 10 minutes away but he'll stop in and check mail, feed the fish, and probably help himself to groceries - he's a hungry boy and I enjoy making the occasional special treat for him still!). So there are no worries there. It's just the travel. And at the Mayo, I'll be responsible for all the schedules, and getting my daughter to and from appointments. Thankfully, the Mayo is extremely generous with wheelchairs so my daughter won't have to wear herself out. Of course, that means I wear myself out pushing her, but I'll manage.

Anyway, I won't be on here for a week, and I'd sure appreciate any positive thoughts, happy thoughts, prayers, etc. It's going to be a long week! I have found that this site is generally helpful, encouraging, insightful and kind. And I appreciate that. So I guess my question is, would you please keep me in your thoughts this week? Thank you so much.

E.,
I live in Rochester. My husband, SIL, and many friends work at Mayo Clinic. My dad had extensive surgery at Mayo about three years ago. You and your daughter will be in the very best of hands. If there is anything that you need help with don't hesitate to ask at the clinic. They will do everything they can to help make your time at Mayo the best they can. If you need help with pushing the wheelchair, they can probably find someone who can help.

I know from my dad's experience that you will be meeting with some of the most compassionate people in the medical field. There are chaplains on staff and every local church has pastors who will make visits to the clinic. If you can't make the phone call, they will find someone who can. The people who live in Rochester are generally caring people and just about anyone you stop on the street will be more than happy to answer questions. I have seen some of the most amazing acts of simple compassion since I have lived in Rochester.

If you are feeling up to it and need a little lift, on Thursdays in downtown, just outside the clinic, there is Thursdays on First. It is an art market type setting with live music and food booths. I've heard many Mayo visitors say it was such a breath of fresh air to step away from the clinic for even a short time and helped them to forget for awhile what they were dealing with.

I have kind of a busy week, but if there is anything you need, please private message me. If I can't help, I can try to find someone who can. I will be thinking of you this week and you will be in my prayers.

Praying for your daughter & for you, being a caregiver is so very hard. I'll be praying things go smoothly on your flights & that Mayo will be able to help your daughter. Please don't hesitate to ask for help, at the airport, from the taxi drivers, from the aides, secretaries, nurses, drs..there are angels everywhere! I hope you'll be able to take a few minutes each day to take care of you..maybe indulge in chocolate, a hot shower, a cup of coffee. You'll both be in my thoughts & prayers this week, please keep us updated.

I don't know exactly what the health issues are with your daughter but I would look to see if there is a support group in Rochester for her condition, or a church group who has volunteers to help you. If you can get the help from volunteers to push your daughter's wheelchair you will have some welcome relief. You will also have someone who understands to talk to as you are waiting for her to complete tests.

Anyway, sending good thoughts to and your daughter. I sincerely hope you get some answers and hopefully a resolution.

I have know two people who have sought treatment at the Mayo clinic. Both were very happy with the compassion and courtesy in which they were treated. I'm hopeful that your experience will be the same!

E., sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. Your daughter's case seems overwhelmingly complex and I pray that the doctors at the Mayo Clinic find some common threads that they can treat so that she can begin to get well and live the life someone as young as her deserves to live, and so that you can get some relief from your worry and care taking. Blessings to you both, please keep us posted when you get back!
