UPDATE: THANKS LADIES!!! I think I am going to go with the new summer handheld out there...its like the other but the screen is larger and you can move the camera with the hand set. We live in a house so Im not too worried about the static... i figure worse case is I take it back until I find out that fits best with us... that being said THANKS so much for all you mom advise!!

Summer infant is hands down the best one out there. The camera has such a variety of angles so you can the picture just right for the child's bedroom/crib, etc. If you have a 2 story get the handheld video monitor FOR SURE. We have two, one for each child.

I have a Summer Day and Night video monitor and we love being able to see our son - especially since he is in a toddler bed and can climb out. That said - we live at the end of a row of town houses and the family next door also has this monitor. We have A LOT of static that comes through and every once in a while I get their children;s rooms instead of my sons and have to walk around the room I'm in to get a clearer picture. I knew this when I was registering from the comments and originally bought a non-video which I also loved (never had any issues) but now that I'm pregnant with #2 and they'll be sharing a room at some point I caved and bought the video. I wouldn't go back but I wish it was clearer and I didn't pick up my neighbors house!!!

I love our Summer Infant brand video monitor. We have the one that looks like a small tv, not the one with the handheld monitor. I liked the bigger screen and didnt have a big enough house to be worth the extra for the handheld. I still use a cheap sound-only monitor for the living area and keep the video next to my bed.

The thing about video monitors is that they will work differently for everyone depending on the layout of your house and what is around you that might cause interference. So you might see one at a friends house that seems great, but the same one at yours could be just static. Keep your receipt that way if the one you choose doesn't work great, you can try a different one. And if it seems to staticky in one spot, try moving both pieces around a little- the part in baby's room and the monitor in yours. But I really like ours. It was right around $100. They carry it at target, walmart and babies r us.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. It's Summer Infant Night/Day monitor. The sound quality on it is AMAZING....I can even hear my little angel breath. The video quality is awesome as well. I could not have been happier with a monitor. It is sold everywhere.....Target, Buy Buy Baby, Babies R Us, etc.
