Son Has Had Fifth's Disease More than Once...

My 6 year old is healthy and active with no health problems. Never even had the flu. He has had 5ths disease 3 times now. He never got the rash on his trunk or limbs, only on his face (my 2 year old did though) and he feels fine when he has it. I didn't know until doing research today that after having it once, it is uncommon to have it again (similar to Chicken Pox). Should I be alarmed that he has had it multiple times? I looked for other people whose children may have had it more than once on different forums, but all I could find was one person who said her child had it more than once but didn't say how many times. I would appreciate any feedback :)

What can I do next?

my daughter had it more than once. i think 2 or 3 times. from my understanding, from what i have read online, is that if they get it once, then they can get the rash coming back for a year afterwards (i think that long) if they get hot, are out in the sun, or get stressed.

Hi N.. I have been researching this as well. I have 3 kids and they have had fifth's disease multiple times. My 8yr old has had it 5 times. My 6yr old 2 times and my 4yr old 3 times. Their pediatrician has told me that it does happen and she didn't seem too concerned. I worry because most doctors lead you to believe that the child only has it once and that it is rare for adults to catch it but my husband and I both caught this last round a month ago and it was VERY bad for us. Extreme pain in the joints with swelling!

I had a friend that Chicken pox 3 times... 1st time on the arms and legs, 2nd on the trunk and the 3rd time on his face/head. All were mild cases but it was chicken pox all 3 times... perhaps something like that is happening?

You can get things more then once. It is normally a milder case the reoccurring times. You never know with stuff anymore. I know a few families that have had their kids flare up with chicken pox...one had it three times, with her two kids.

This is random but sort of falls in the anything can happen...My tenth grade year of HS, I contracted a skin issue that was most common in African american men! I am the whitest person you could ever meet...and I am surely no man!

Nothing to worry about... it just means that he's been exposed multiple times and for whatever reason, that particular virus was able to take hold more than once. If he was constantly sick, got all different diseases over and over again, or took longer to recover than his peers, you might want to worry. But getting Fifths (or Chicken Pox) multiple times is like getting a cold multiple times. Annoying, but nothing to worry about.

(I got Fifths Disease as an adult. That truly sucked. It's way worse in adults... so just be glad you're apparently already immune)

I don't know why but my child has come up with fifth's disease twice now within seven months. I am a little disturbed my self knowing now that she should be immuned to it by now. Is it something else? the symptoms are the same as before. I think I will check with her doctor. Don't know what else to do.

I always thought 5ths was easy peasy unless you were pregnant. That is odd getting it 2x. But, some people do get chicken pox 2x.....
