I take her to the doctor but he said its just a cold that needs to run its course. Neither of us are getting sleep. I run the vaporizer and use saline drops but seems like its getting worse. Prop up the head of her crib with phonebooks to help her breathing at night & naps.
Keep running the cool mist. The saline is good. also you can buy nose wipes called Boogie Wipes that are very gentle on her nose.
If she's had this cold and fever for longer than 10 days, call again.
Poor thing. hang in there.

Run a VERY hot shower. Close the door and let it get very steamy. Take her in the bathroom with you and sit for as long as you can. The steam will help loosed up the congestion. I also put Vicks on the bottom of my son's feet and behind his ears when he got a cold at that age. Seemed to really help. I found with my son that his colds often got worse before they got better. If it persists for much longer, go back to the doctor or get a second opinion. I feel for you and hope you get some much needed rest soon!

I hope they finally gave her an antibiotic for the infection. Just 1 quick suggestion when congested - turn the shower on HOT and go sit in the steam with her just before bed (make sure to wrap her warmly when you go out of the bathroom as the temp adjustment is severe). It helps clear them out and lets them get some sleep.

These things will help greatly:
Do not give her any dairy except breast milk if you are nursing and if so, stop YOUR intake of dairy until she is feeling better. Dairy is very mucous forming in many people. No juice either. Sugar absolutely weakens the immune system and is shooting yourself in the foot.
For naps and night time get some baby vicks vapo rub and coat the chest with it and the front of the neck, too, if coughing is an issue. Next, coat the bottom of baby's feet with vick's vapo rub and put socks on over it. I don't know why this works, it just does. Especially where night coughing is an issue.
Also, don't fall into the tylenol trap of constantly trying to bring that fever down. It's there to kick the butt of whatever is making your baby miserable and unless it goes super high or makes your baby ragdoll sluggish is not a problem but a help. Fevers generally start and get higher in the evenings so don't let that bother you. Let the fever do its work and don't force food on baby when feverish. Sorry you're having such a rough time! Blessings

keep nursing her on demand.
A fever for 3 weeks... is a long time.
How high does her temp go?
Do you give her Tylenol?
Tylenol only reduces the fever and helps discomfort from fever, but it does NOT 'cure' the illness. It is only a temporary fever reducer.

Did you only take her to the Doctor once? Our Pediatrician, says, that if the illness/fever does not go away... then ALWAYS return for a follow-up...
A 'cold' usually runs its course, within 10 days.
Your baby, has been sick for 3 weeks..... with fever/congestion.
I would, take your baby back to the Doctor...
BECAUSE, what if she has a secondary infection????

Per her congestion:
Is this in her chest... or nose????
If it is in her chest... then, that is worse. A child can get secondary infections/bronchitis/pertussis/pneumonia etc. SO, her chest has to be checked... especially in a baby... they do not have a fully developed immune system yet. A child's immune system is not even fully developed until 2 years old....

Vaporizers and saline drops, only helps alleviate discomfort.... it does NOT "cure" a cold... or illness or infection.

**NEXT: you said she is "getting worse...." SO, you NEED to take her back to the Doctor, and tell them that. This is an important thing... because she is getting WORSE... not better. And it has been 3 weeks of her being ill, already.

all the best,
Susan

She could be allergic to something and/or have an infection. Are you suctioning out her nasal passages after the saline? It could be judt a cold but I personally would want them to rule out the other things. Good luck!

Best advice take her to a new Peditrician, 3 weeks is much too long especially for a child under 12 months. Most doctors tell you to bring a child in immediately who has a fever and is less than 12 months. It is very dangerous for a child that young.

Also try vapor rub for her chest and back and put some on a tissue close to wear she sleeps. But see a new doctor.

Try putting her in the bathroom with steam from the shower for about 10 minutes before putting her to bed. Then run the humidifier. The saline drops are good. Also use tylenol and benedryl for symptoms if your doctor says it's okay. Some times my kids have a hard time shaking a cold. I do this stuff consistently and it helps. Good luck!
