Should I Get a Bumbo for My Infant? Christmas List Suggestions for 2 Mo Old.

He is only two months old but I am making Christmas lists. Is this a worthwhile product that I should get or is it a waste of space? I have no idea what to tell people to get him but I know in a few months I will wish I had put some things on a list. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

We had one but didn't use it very long. I think there are other things that are more useful and for a longer time so would be more worthwhile buying.

I like the suggestion of clothes in larger sizes. How about Robeez in the larger sizes? My daughter still wears them in the house as slippers and loves them.

Books, toys for 9-12 months. My daughter has a red car made by Fisher Price that she's had since she was 9 months old and she still plays with it. The Fisher Price Laugh n Learn line of toys is good for babies.

we got one as a hand me down and it was alright, didn't use it very much, but it was a good toy..I loved the excersaucer though. I had people buy books, holiday themed are great, when he gets older I want to wrap all his holiday books and every day in decemeber he can open a book and that will be his bedtime story for the night and on christmas eve he can ready the night before christmas, I heard of someone doing this and I thought it sounded cool!

honey you could get a two month old a box of bows and they
would be happy. typically the best thing to get for anyone
under oh, say ninety.. is clothes. what is a bumbo anyway ??if you have too many baby things as it is then consider
regifting what your kids dont want or need. or you could give the unwanted toys and games etc. to a local womens
shelter, you get a tax deduction and somebodies little one
gets a toy, game or stuffed animal they otherwise may not get.
gotta go

I don't suggest it at all while my sister loved hers. My daughter was/is very active and would come almost completely out of hers so I feel it can give a very false sense of security. You should give some very specific ideas for others to get or you will end up with several of the same or similar things that will be of no use in a few short months. I recommend looking ahead and suggesting things that are for six months and older (like through his first birtday and beyond). Clothes in various sizes, food items, diapers and wipes. Better yet, savings bonds (you can buy $50 one for just $25) that can be put away for later.

I have a Bumbo that I have used with all three of my children and I love it. It allows you an opportunity to get a shower, do the dishes, get things done while your child gets a new perspective (sitting up, not laying down.) I would recommend one to anyone. Other suggestions are exersaucer, playpen/play yard, playmat, and books never get old. Have fun. Merry Christmas with your new little blessing!

I LOVED the bumbo seat for my son. it helped him sit upright and be part of the action. Never use it on a table or anywhere if he fell out he could fall a distance. There is a table now that you can put across but there wasn't one when we had ours. If I have another one, i will definately get a bumbo seat.

i used my bumbo a lot, get the play tray so you can give them snacks on it - i used mine on the table as a high chair, and took it places so my baby would have somewhere to sit - yes they are worth it

I don't really like the bumbo and I work with ot/pt therapists for infants who do not recommend them as well! They do not teach children to sit up on their own and don't allow them to strengthen their muscles, etc. Just my opinion, though. I would also put on toys that grow with your daughter like stackable sets, music, rings etc!

I LOVE my Bumbo, but its intended use for helping a child to sit up is short lived.

Ours got a second life as an easily cleaned booster seat for my daughter. She is nearly 3 and has used it daily as a booster for well more than a year. We gave her other booster seat to our infant son.

For toys, we got tons of use out of our exersaucers. Also, those colored stacking donuts by Fisher-Price were a big hit, as are the shape sorters.

We are now using our same Bumbo with our third child, so we have definitely gotten a LOT of usage out of it. It's great for early sitting, for later use as a booster, and it makes a GREAT seat in the wagon. Also, though the package says not to do this, and obviously you have to use your common sense and not leave child unattended this way, but it makes a GREAT bath seat. Buy the accessory tray and you'll get loads of use out of it, for lots of different occasions.

I had a bumbo for the first time with my 3rd child & we barely used it , the older 2 played with it more , but then I know people who use them alot! At this age I know you feel like you should get them something but as they don't know any different it seems like a waste of money getting too much. Too many toys are a waste of money , 0-12m toys all do the same , so get 1 or 2 that he can use in a few months and then ask people if they mind getting you useful stuff like next sized clothes , next sized diapers , wipes. Also it is only a matter of time before he will be ready for starting solids so you could get his first cutlery set or plate/bowl set.

Hope these are useful ideas

You probably won't know until you get one. Our daughter didn't like it and learned how to get out after using it for a couple weeks. So basically it was unsafe for her to use b/c she would flip it trying to get out. Try looking for one on Craigslist before spending a lot of money on a new one. That's what I would have done if it were not given to me as a gift.

I think music CDs are the best gifts. Can never have too many. I recommend any of the kids' Putamayo CDs and the Beethoven's Wig CDs.

And ask for clothes 12-18 months ahead in size. I really like to get those rubberized socks because they are expensive and you can never have too many different colors.

Also, I think Fisher Price Little People toys are great first toys up through preschool age. ALthough your four year old may have these.

Also check out some unique European toys at sites like Oompa. HABA blocks are fantastic and you can get many different sets - for instance , a basic natural wookd block set now and over the years the fancier architechtural blocks. Alphabet blocks are good too.

Also, think ahead to baby food around 6 months. If you are going to make your own food this time, you want a good blender/food processor and nice ice cube trays. Plus you will need all the bibs, plates, sippy cups (and extra valves), etc. You may have some, but I ended up starting fresh with a lot of stuff since my older child had used everything for so long. Every second child deserves a few new things, right? :)

Personally, I don't see the neeed for Bumbos. My SIL loved hers, but I think you can come to rely on it so that the baby doesn't develop their sitting muscles. YOu have to be careful not to over use it. It also has a very short life. Some people use it as a booster, but they don't attach to anything and ther is no seat belt, and I don't think that's very safe. However, getting a travel booster for taking to Grandma's is a great idea.

Enjoy your Christmas!!

Absolutely... It was a great investment for us. We used it all the time. Instead of using the high chair all the time we would sit her on the table and feed her cereal/food while we ate dinner! It was perfect and they are pretty durable. My daughter is 4 now. We used it and 2 others have borrowed it and I intend to get it back for my next child! Well worth the money :)

We got one for my 2nd daughter and she hated it! We only used it a few times. My advice if you still want one, would be to get one at a kids sale/yard sale and save your $40!

Sure, it wouldn't hurt to ask for one.

I always asked for the basics: diapers - current size and next size up!, formula, wet ones.

Baby wash, wash clothes, nail clippers, etc. make great stocking stuffers!

I tell my friends with summer/fall infants to ask for a convertible carseat or two. True he doesn't need right now, but he will in a few months, and now is the time that family and friends are feeling generous. They want to help you provide the big ticket items.

If you ask for clothing, he'll probably be in 3 - 6m clothing come mid-winter, and 6-9 months come spring.

we had a bumbo with a detachable tray and we loved it. we used it without the tray at home only a little bit, but we took it every where with us and used it as a booster/highchair in restaurants and we used it with the tray as a travel highchair when we went to visit friends and family.

i've read no reviews on the bumbo seat so don't know what others have to say. but i was fortunate enough to get to try one out in our church nursery before making a decision. i decided against it because my daughter, at 7-8 weeks, was able to rock with enough force to make it fall backwards with her in it!!! this happened on more than one occassion! i do think that the bumbo has a great concept but the seat itself is so light, there needs to be something that weighs down the bottom a little more.
