I've only heard of the nailpolish thing with Chiggers, which we don't have in California...and they are an actual bug, so maybe someone got their wires crossed. But I have had the ringworm before, you need an over-the -counter fungus cream. Feel better!!!

If you are a teacher you probably got them from school. You need to go to a doctor because they take a long time to go away. You need oral medication and a ointment to go with it.

Its common and can be caught anywhere... probably from a child or even a pet.
My Dad once got ringworm... his Doctor told him he got it from our Dog. Meanwhile the Vet told him "he" gave it to the dog. Ha, ha.
I"ve had ringworm as a kid too. Common.

Put either prescription anti-fungal cream on it from your Doctor... or perhaps over the counter.
Mind you, ring-worm is very contagious.... if you touch/itch it and touch someplace else, even your head, it can go there, on your scalp, or anywhere.

Check your sons as well.

Sometimes, it can take time to completely go away. Keep putting anti fungal cream on it. But I'd probably go to the Doctor to make sure.

All the best,
Susan

ROFL... gawd I love the vet's response to Susan's dad, that HE gave it to the dog. You've just gotta love vets. Vets and Firemen... the universally adored occupations.

Yup. Just a fungal infection. Super contagious. You'll need to wash your sheets every day, as well as any clothes that touch it, and avoid wearing jewelry that touches it... or you'll just get reinfected. A simple fungal cream will usually take care of it, although you can get an Rx cream from your doc. It will *probably* spread to everyone in your family.

One trick we used in the south, was to put the cream on, and then tape cling wrap over it... both to keep the cream from being rubbed off, and to avoid transferring the fungus to anything else. You DO need to let it air out from time to time throughout the day, though, or you'll have more problems.

both my kids have had it. It's not a big deal, just very contagious. I had to put lotramin (I know I spelled that wrong) cream on it for 3 weeks 2 times a day and it cleared up. It did leave a slight scar on them, but their dr. said it's all cleared up.

I've never heard of the nail polish thing (interesting). Ringworm isn't as terrible as you think. It's not like you have actually worms in your stomach. The name just makes it sound gross. My sister has had it all through her pregnancy 'cause the cream the doc gave her didn't work. He said it probably wouldn't go away "til after the baby is born.

An over-the-counter anti-fungal cream will take care of it. Tea tree oil is also anti-fungal.

Did you get a new pet recently or have you or your kids been around any new pets? I got ringworm from kittens when I was a little girl. Ringworm is a fungal infection and is highly contagious. Wash all linens and clothes that have possibly come in contact with the infected area. Take extra vitamin C and eat healthy to promote recovery. Lavender, rosemary and thyme essential oils are effective against ringworm. Dilute it 1:1 if you have sensitive skin or directly if you don't. apply with a cotton ball two to three times a day. I got this remedy from Naturally Healthy Babies and Children by Aviva Jill Romm.

My son wrestles and it is quite common to get it. You get it from skin to skin contact. You probably touched someone that had it, maybe if you gave someone a hug, since it is on your chest? Anyway, Lotrimin is usually what they suggest. Just make sure to keep it covered so you don't pass it on to someone else.

After never having it before, I got ringworm when I was pregnant and the Dr. told me to put Lansanil (the athlete's foot medicine) on it. It cleared up a few days afterwards. He also said that if the Lansanil didn't work then to apply yeast infection medicine to it.

You probably got them from one of your kids or from a public source of sand such as a park, beach, or school playground.
I had them myself once and I had to go to the doctor and take a persciption medication that he gave to me. You take a dose and then take a second dose one week later to prevent the worms from coming back.
Have your kids checked for them as well. It's kind of like head lice, it's easy to get it from someone who has them.

everything is valid that was talked about below: you can see your doc to have him perscribe an antifungal cream, apply often and keep covered with a bandaid. takes a few weeks to go away. We had gotten it before from a dog! lol
it is not a big deal, it is not a gross worm or bug it is a fungus. like the one on feet or jock itch...
you will be fine.

No worries, we have had it in my household a few times. Just use an OTC fungal cream. Like those mentioned below.

Ring worm is contagious, your best bet is to see your doctor and get medication and stay home from work/school.

No biggie. They come up now and again. Just keep the area clean. Change your clothes regularly, do not reuse towels after a shower. You can apply alcohol, or peroxide, or cortisone cream... and any number of the other suggestions listed by the Mamas here. Change your diet -- less sugar, bread and alcohol. Take probiotics. I had it once on my hand. I have no clue how I got it either, but I got some Tinactin in a little plastic bottle from the pharmacy. I applied it a few times a day especially after washing the area and it took like a week or 2 to go away.
Good luck

First of all, they are not really worms. It's a skin fungus. I got them a few times when I was young and my mom made me dab a cottonball with Lysol and apply to the spot. Not too much because Lysol is not really made for that purpose. But it DID work like a charm each time. Dried them right up. Good Luck to you!

Don't freak, it's just a rash...usually fungal in nature. We have had it in our household a few times and it seems to take awhile to completely go away! I get Nystatin from the Ped or my doc to dry it up. I have found that Lotrimin doesn't work for us, but sometimes works for other people. So, don't freak out if it doesn't do the job, just get something stronger, like Nystatin.

Good luck!
