Printing Recipes from Online? or Do You Just Bookmark Them?

I guess I am a bit old fashioned and like my 2 ring-bound card recipe book. Some sites used to let you print the recipes in a few different card sizes (Hershey's used to, as I have some, but I see that option no longer exists..bummer), and I would just print on card stock, as I can never seem to find good firm note cards either. Perhaps I am a dinosaur, but my Moms old "Chicken book" (has a appliqué chicken on the felt cover..homemade book) recipe card book meant alot to me, and now I have my own (even tho it has a strawberry on it, it is actually called the Chicken book! LOL). I would print a shrunken version of the picture of the dish as well and put it on the card somewhere if there was room. Makes thumbing thru things easy, especially with cookie recipes!

Is there a simple setting most printers come with for various note card sizes? That sure would make my life easy! Maybe a template where I can still copy and paste the info from online recipes? Anyone have some ideas for this 40 year old Dino?

Thanks!

I use allrecipes.com and I do tend to print things out. They have a setting where you can choose from 3 different formats and also choose font size. It's all free.

Both. I do not want my computer or laptop in the kitchen,, I am to much of a Klutz.
I have a file that is recipes on my desktop and then I have paper copies of the ones I actually have made..

I have a laptop, so I bookmark the recipes and just take my laptop to the kitchen and start cooking. I am very careful, though, so I've never gotten it wet, or crumby, or cheesy or slimy. I also like it because I can set the view to "zoom in" so the text is nice and big and I don't have to squint to read anything, like I used to have to with the cookbooks. I actually haven't cooked from a cookbook in a really long time!

I print my recipes in full sheets and then punch them with a three whole puncher and stick them in a binder. I also mark them "chicken," "beef," "appetizer." Otherwise I have a recipe avalanche in my kitchen.

I like to have a hard copy of my recipes that I can make notes on. You know, add more vanilla, less sugar, etc. (I have been baking a lot lately!!!!)

I also use Allrecipes.com and save recipes to my recipe box on site so if I misplace the printed one I have still have it for later.

I second the cut and paste method for printing - you can set the paper size under page settings then print onto whatever medium you like.

Happy cooking!! And don't forget to share those yummy recipes.

I book mark recipes I want to try. Once I try them and they are liked by my picky eaters I write out the recipe in the recipe cards in my book. It was one of the first things I bought when I turned 18 so the book means a lot to me. It has seen better days (by far) and I really do need a new one but having trouble replacing it!

I usually print them out and then put them in paper protectors and into a 3 ring binder.

You should be able to create or find a template for Word that is the size you need for card stock if you are set on that format. then you can just cut and paste.

If the option for different sized cards is not there, I simply copy and paste in onto a word format. Then I go in and change the size of the paper until it's 4 x 6 (my note card preference). No fussing with templates or sizing things. If it's two sided I simply print one side and then flip the card over before I continue.

I'm fairly certain, you can buy index card sheets, to print directly on. They are in the address labels section of office supplies stores. Microsoft word, has the template and the index cards are perforated on the sheet.

I second allrecipes.com. There is a print button on each recipe for a printer friendly version. Typically though, I just add them to my recipe box on the site so I can search only my recipes.

I print out recipes I want to try. Computers crash and internet sites go away, but a printed copy is forever! (and I can make my own notes on it as I try the recipe.

If the different sites don't have the option, or if you want them all to be the same, check out the line of Avery products online (Staples, Office Depot, etc.) You might find one that will fit the bill, and that would give you a standard template to work from. (Most Avery products have a built-in template already in Word, you look it up by product number.)

HTH! Good luck!

I just have a big 3 ring binder with the divided pages and I print them out and put it in the 3 ring binder. I also have cut and pasted them into a Word document and saved all like items together (casseroles, breakfast, cookies, etc) under a folder called "recipes". Hope that helps!

Look for Avery paper at an office supply store (like Staples). They have several different sizes of postcards that you can print on. Each package comes with directions on how to set your computer to print it correctly. Just copy and paste into to the template.
