Need an OB Recommendation in NYC

I need a recommendation for an OB-GYN in NYc , possibly one who specializes in high risk. I had a complicated delivery with my first pregnancy and was extremely unhappy with the way the OB handled things. I subsequently got pregnant again but this ended in a miscarriage. I am looking for an Ob who is very responsive, a "hand-holder" type - but most importantly someone who can handle complications appropriately and truly listens to concerns. Has anyone had a complicated pregnancy and/or delivery and been happy with your OB throughout? Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

I highly recommend Dr. Andre Rebarber (first name may be spelled wrong) He is a maternal fetal specialist and was my doctor for the birth of my twin girls who are now almost 3yrs old. When I was his patient he was practicing at NYU but he has since moved to Mt Sinai. Not that this is important, but I believe he was Brooke Shields Dr. for her first child. He's mentioned in her book, And The rain Came Down. Which I also recommend.

Dr. Janet Stein, she's at B. Israel Medical Center. She is wonderful!I am 38 and if I were to have another baby I would be making an appointment with her. My sister in law just had her 3rd (at 44) and saw Dr. Stein...

I recommend Dr. Samuel Levin on E. 86th Street. I think his office # is ###-###-####. Of course, I'm not sure if he's taking on new patients; it's worth a call. His staff is wonderful and kind and he's very hands-on as he's the only dr. in his practice. You'll always deal with him, from the beginning to the delivery. What's more, in 9 months he was only late 3x for appointments and that's rare in NYC.
He does talk fast and moves quickly, but he listens to all your questions and takes your concerns seriously. He even returns phone calls within the hour.
He's a big fan of natural births, but I wound up having a C-Section and felt totally at ease with him (as much as one can feel at ease during a C-Section!).
Honestly, now that I've delivered, I actually miss him and his staff!

Hi,

I had a high risk pregnancy - had twins in 2006. I love, love, love my ob. Her name is Dr. Lynn Friedman, she's located on the upper east side of NYC. She is absolutely incredible! She's listed as one of the top ob-gyns by NY Magazine. Check her out...you will be thrilled with her!

Let me know if you have any questions!

I live in NJ and had to have a precedure done 5 yrs ago. I am also high-risk. My high risk ob in NJ (who I love) sent me to Dr. Michael Silverstein. At that time he was at NYU. I believe he is now at Mt Sinai. He is very caring. He returns phone calls promptly. He will give you straight answers. Perhaps if you contact his office, explain your situation, he would be an appropriate ob for you. Or perhaps he could refer you to an ob who has a lot of experience with your problem.
I always checkout any doctors I am referred to on www.rateMDs.com. It is a very good resource.
I too had terrible miscarriages and now have 2 healthy children. Good luck.

I had both my boys with the same practice. Dr Yale and Dr Romoff. They do not take any insurance (their only downfall) It is only the two drs and at EVERY appt., it was me who said,"Well, I guess that's it." I was never rushed. They are located on Park Ave b/w 72 and 73.
I would highly recom them!! Their #: ###-###-####. Tell them Dr Susan Cannold sent you!! Tell Liz (the nurse) I said HI!

Hello,

I have a 4 month old boy and was lucky enough to find a wonderful ob/gyn.

Dr. Po Ching Fong
48 Market St., St B
###-###-####.

She listens to all my concerns and truly care about everything I have to say. Soon after giving birth, my husband rec'd orders to Iraq. She listend and comforted me and was so very kind.( I have not had any docs that will take the time out for me like that.) Follow-up with me to make sure I was fine after my husband left.

All through-out the pregnancy, she answered my questions by phone or via email if not the same day, always the very next day. But most importantly, she listens and is so comforting when ever I am stressed out.

So, if you think you might have a complicated pregnancy and want to make sure your Dr. will listen to you, I'd recommend Dr. Fong.

Good Luck. I hope everything will work out for you.

Following three miscarriages someone suggested that I see Jonathan Scher. He specializes in high risk pregnancies and miscarriage prevention. Under his care I went on to have a baby (by c-section) last fall. His 'bedside manner' may not be to every one's liking - but he's a wonderful doctor, very responsive to your concerns, and devoted to his patients. (For example: by coincidence he delivered the children of a colleague of mine - 22 + years ago - and he remembers them and their mum. When I was there one time, a woman came in with her 25 year old daughter and he remembered them). He doesn't take any insurance, but it may be worth it if you have an out of network plan. And certainly worth a consultation.

Good luck!

Dr. Janice Marks, ###-###-####, on the upper east side -- specializes in older women who are delivering, she is very very cautious, will do all the tests, and an excellent surgeon if you end up needing that, as I did...also very responsive, and does answer questions and get right back to you. Couldn't recommend her more highly. I feel like she literally saved my life. Only drawback, she doesn't accept insurance, so you have to pay and then submit for reimbursement to yourself.

Hi, I have an excellent OB-GYN who handled my complicated pregnancy -- IUGR requiring eight weeks hospital bed rest and a 33 week preemie weighing 2 pounds. Your only problem may be that she may not accept new patients. She is VERY popular but try all the same.

Her name is Andrea Dobrenis, ###-###-#### and she works with Garrik Leonard and is with Cornell.

Good luck!!!

Dr. Moritz at St. Lukes-Roosevelt is a high risk OBGYN and is also the head of the neonatal unit and birthing center there. My children were delivered in the birthing center by midwives but Dr. Moritz covered both births and was called in after the first for a minor emergency.
he is definitely a hand holder.
good luck.

Dr. Lynn Simpson out of Columbia. She a perinatologist -- specializes in high risk pregnancies and she's at 161 Fort Washington. Unbelievable OB. My first son had a major heart defect (Transposition of the Great Arteries - we found out at 20 weeks which is when found Dr Simpson) and my second pregnancy was twins. She is the best by far and I'm really, really picky. She didn't deliver any of my children (just worked out that way), but she was so fabulous the entire pregnancies. Boy - does she know her stuff. Love her, love her, love her!!

Good luck!

Dr. Garrick Leonard is possibly the best OB in NYC. He is a risk specialist and a general OB. He's located on the UES and affiliated with NY Presbyterian, rated the best baby hospital in NYC. He is kind and thoughtful and knowledgable and incredibly well-respected as a baby doctor. I delivered with him last September after switching OBs late term and, although I really had wanted a female doctor, I couldn't be happier or felt I was in better hands. I found him by doing research, asking other moms and checking online. When I could only find glowing reports and not a single negative comment, I knew I'd found the right doctor. Good Luck to you!!
