I am pregnant and am hoping to have a VBAC with this one, only problem I have is that I live in Tahoe, and I've been told I'll have to deliver in Sac if I want to have a VBAC. So, my hope is that some of you mom's out there might be able to recommend a good OB in the area. I'd be delivering at either Sutter or Mercy, so if anyone knows of a great OB in that area, I'd LOVE to hear about him/her. Also, if anyone has any advice regarding VBAC, I'd love to hear that too! Thank you!

What can I do next?

I also recommend a doc at Associates in Women's Health, in Roseville.

My OB is Dina Canavero, but Dr. Ho delivered my first daughter.

I highly recommend Sutter Roseville. Both of my deliveries/recoveries were there, and the staff is great!

Good Luck!

I am in the exact same boat. Pregnant and want a VBAC, but I was told by my Midwife that I will be evaluated in the 37th week to see if I am physically capable of having my second vaginally with out trouble. I was also told that UCDavis Med center is where they have the staff to perform VBACs but I could just be the insurance I am under accepts only that as my alternative hospital. I would go to a midwife open house at the hospitals of your/insurances choice and find one that you would like. They have them periodically every other month or so. Or Check out each website of the midwifes at the hospital(s) and schedule an interview(s) with the one(s) you like. Good Luck!!!

SMG(Sutter Medical group) is the BEST in Sac. They are located on Alhambra & (hhmm? like 35th?).. here's their # ###-###-#### People travel from all over the place to see them. The 2 BEST OB's of all time are Dr.Elizabeth McClure & Dr. Darcy Ketchum. Ketchum delivered my son last year but McClure worked VERY close with my pregnancy, she did a few procedures after my son was born(I was "high risk," had Placenta Previa/abrubtion & post pardum hemorage, spent 61 days at sutter pre-baby in the high risk unit) & I was soo blessed to be Taken care of by Sutter. To be 100% honest with you I would choose "Dr.McClure" to be your primary & try & schedule out all your apointments with her & Dr. Ketchum only. They usually want you to see all the dr.'s that way you get to know them all because they are on call but I pushed to only be seen by those 2 because they rock. They're all great but nobody beats these 2. (of all the Dr.s the only 1 I wasnt a Huge fan of was Dr. Graham-he's the only guy & I could have done without him. He's been around a long time like the others but I just wasnt a fan, maybe because my pregnanvy was so high risk? I dont know, he just didnt make me feel comfortable. You can even tell McClure that I referred you(my name is katrina Gouge).. Trust me--they know ALL about me. She jokes that my pregnancy made her age 10years & turned her hair grey! :)
Good Luck... :)

I was with Sutter Medical group for my first pregnancy. They were the ob's that suggested & eventually preformed my c-section. Sutter Memorial was a great place to be, but because they have a high rate of "high risk" pregnancies they may be more comfortable using more medical procedures like c-sections. I even hired a doula & I still ended up with a section. I vowed to never have another one so I chose homebirth midwives with my 2nd baby to make sure I had the best care.

It took most of my 2nd pregnancy to convince my husband to consider a homebirth, but I'm so glad I did. We switched care shortly before my due date. Because my 2nd baby was posterior like the 1st one, I'm sure I would have had another section if I'd been in any hospital. Instead, I had an amazing vaginal birth & then a 2nd VBAC water birth when I was 39 years old. It is totally possible & wonderful! I don't know why you had a section, but from what I've read, there's really no reason why VBAC's should be considered "high risk."

My advice is to do whatever it takes to get your VBAC. I just wasn't comfortable with my Kaiser OB's saying they would give me a "chance" to have a VBAC. I wanted someone to help me that believed in VBAC's.

My other piece of advice is to remember your body was designed to give birth & to just let it do its work. When your baby is coming, think positive thoughts of things opening wide. Any worry from you or anyone else in the room (including an o.b.) can shut the whole process down.

I have only heard of happy experiences from anyone I've met who has birthed with One Heart Midwifery ###-###-#### (even the moms who had to transfer care to a hospital were happy to have been in their care.) I've even heard of families who have moved away, coming to stay in town to birth with One Heart. At least for my midwife group, it seems to me that they have more experience with some aspects of birthing than the o.b's are trained for. They are such nurturing women, maybe they have some advice?

Best wishes for a happy birth!

Marshall Medical Group in Placerville also does VBAC's... my primary Dr there is Dr. Michael Jones OBGYN hes been in practice for over 30 years, and not only delievered my 4 children, but also delivered 3 of my Mom's 5 children (the last 3, which he delievered, were VBAC), if you can't get in with him there are about 5 other wonderful Dr.'s in that practice as well, the actual OB office is literally right across the drive from the hospital, so you can sechdule a visit to the Birth Place (thats what they call it) around one of your appts to save on your driving time.. Good luck in your search for a new OB!!

Sutter Roseville OB/GYN,
I LOVE them. Dr Riley is my OB and my best friend just had a successful VBAC in December. Dr Riley was her primary OB, and another Dr in her practice delivered the baby (so I'm sure any of them in the practice will do the VBAC).
GL!

The OBGYN dept @ Sutter Alhambra (downtown Sacramento) is great. I just had an appointment with Dr. Guiles this week and really liked him (it was just my annual as I'm not pregnant right now). For those that are pregnant, they rotate docs each month so that you get familiar with the doc that might be on call when you deliver. I saw them all and had a great experience. It's a great team. I delivered at Sutter Memorial on F Street.

I liked my doctor, Dr. Huiga, but I delivered by c-section with him so I don't know about VBACs in his practice. He's located out on Fair Oaks Blvd. Really nice person and the other docs he practices with are pretty good, too. He delivers at Sutter (and if you can deliver at Sutter, you should - GREAT facilities).
