How Often Do You Bathe Your Kids (Or They Bathe Themselves)

Updated on May 17, 2011

I had 1 or 2 a week as a kid, usually with my sister. My DD bathes everyday, not just to be clean, but to relax her, get rid of the last of her energy, as part of the bedtime routine. Whats your kids bath schedule?

Usually two, maybe three times a week. Or if he gets into something and is so dirty that wiping with a washcloth isn't enough! My son has mild eczema, so I've never wanted to overdo it with baths. I imagine this summer we will be doing baths way more often though, due to the heat and they way my poor baby sweats... and also now that he's walking - er, running (!) - he's into a lot more dirt :)

about 2-3x a week.

In the summers, we usually bathe/shower more often bc of the sticky sunblock (which looooves to attract dirt and dust!!!LOL).

2-3 times per week generally. More often in the summer, but basically as needed to keep the kids clean. Baths aren't part of our bedtime routine, as both my kids have really dry skin and I don't think daily baths are good for them.

My daughter is 3 and she gets a bath on average twice a week, though it will be more often if necessary (she doesn't normally get that dirty).

Funny, I was just thinking about this the other day - as a kid, I played outside every day in the summer, and swam in our lake, our neighbor's pool, got sprayed with bug repellent, etc. On average it all got washed off only once a week!

Every other day. It's not good for them to be striped of their natural body oils everyday. In the winter I would even go as far as every third day. Now that summer is coming they need to be bathed more often because I can see the dirt on them :)

When we had just one child, it was every night as part of her bedtime routine. Now that we have 3, we're at about every 2 or 3 nights....but more in the summer (to get all the sunscreen and chlorine off) despite swimming.

It depends on the kid and the age. My 5 year old gets only 1-2 baths a week in the winter, more in the summer when he get dirtier. My 2 year old loves a bath and gets dirty more often. She also has fine hair and needs to wash it at least every 2-3 days (2 or 3 baths a week or more).

Almost everyday, but sometimes as little as every third day. My kids know how to get dirty. It's one of their talents. It's also a nice, warm, relaxing activity that takes up a good 45 minutes. They bathe together (they are almost 3 & 4 girls). We only do soap/shampoo where and when they actually need it.

Every night especially when he's been to school or day care or the play ground to wash the germs and dirt off. He also likes a bath to relax or if his muscles are sore or if he's not feeling well.
The only time we'll skip a bath is if we've been home all day on a weekend and it was too rainy or cold to go outside.

Once or twice a week? I'm guessing you never went outside. Lol

My girls get a bath EVERY NIGHT whether they go outside or not. They are usually bathe by or before 7pm. And per their request they like to wear a different pajama set to bed each night. That's their rule. Lol.

My girls are 2 and 4 and do allow them to bathe themselves but I always do my part to make sure they are thoroughly cleaned.

Everyday. All of them have allergy issues and the sneezing and running noses are ten times worse when they go to bed without bathing. I wash their hair, too. Every other night when their allergies aren't bad. My son has a bath every day when he is in school. I think it helps keep the colds away. I think he has had one cold this entire school year.

Nightly.

Of course, I have sons. They go through periodic "soap is evil" phases and then I make them shower as many times as it takes to smell fresh and clean. The record is five showers in one hour because, and I quote, "soap is evil and so are girls. Why bother?" The first time I heard that, I got their father to explain a good answer and hid in my closet to laugh until I cried.

Good luck!

Every other day for my 28 month old boy. He gets very dry skin and mild eczema, so every day definately doesn't work for him. And of course, if he got really dirty or after he's had sunscreen on (makes the eczema worse).

He gets a bath in the middle of the day, because it seems to have the opposite effect on him - instead of calming him down, it stimulates and winds him up before bedtime.

Shower in the morning, bath at night.

Shower to get presentable in the morn... bath to wash the day off.

As a child I only bathed at night, but certainly did every night, as I was a mess. I didn't learn to shower in the morning until I joined the military... but boy did I need one.

My oldest and youngest have super dry, sensitive skin (my son has a touch of eczema, too), so they don't shower quite as often as my middle child, who inherited a Mediterranean complexion, complete with slightly oily skin and hair. She showers every other day and the other two every 3 days or so. But in the summertime, it's usually everyday because we swim in chlorinated pools a lot. My son, 13, is getting into the gross teenage boy stage where I will start insisting on daily showers...he'll just have to use lots of moisturizer to combat his dry skin.

I pretty much bathed mine every night, as you say it was part of the winding down at the end of the day routine. I think everyone sleeps better when they go to bed clean, also you dont have to wash the sheets as often. Putting a kid to bed with dirty feet is so gross in my book.

My 10 year old should be showering at least every other day but she doesn't always comply. My 6 year old enjoys being clean and bathing herself so she showers anywhere between daily and every other day. My 8 year old... well... it really depends. I get her in when I can, but on weeks that she doesn't want to and resists then it's only twice a week. When she wants to shower then it's every other day or more depending on how dirty she is.

When they were all babies I bathed them every other day or as often as they reeked of spit up, poo, or pee and that smell couldn't be wiped away with a wash cloth or wipe. :-)
