How Much to Pay for "Emergency Care"?

I think it should depend on the reason he can't go to daycare. If the daycare is closed due to incliment weather or the daycare provider is sick, then I'd say 30-35 per day. But if your child is running a fever or has been throwing up or having runny diapers, then I'd say the person should be paid 50-75 for the day. You would be exposing them to the germs and they may likely get sick the next week. You couldn't pay me enough to expose myself if I haven't already been exposed. Personally, I prefer to keep most of the germs in my small group of children contained. We share each others germs. Sending them home to end up in yet another persons house or sent to a grandparent where there will be cousins and maybe expose them to yet another virus, just doesn't make sense to me. But that's another days post :)

What I would suggest is for you to ask the mothers that were recomended to you if they can work with your budget. If what you can pay them is $50 a day or maybe more or less, then you can figure out what is best for you. I would say a reasonable amount is $40-$50 a day. But then again, it would also depend on the caregiver.
So, call them up and find out with them if they can work with you.

It depends on your area. Around here, we caregivers get paid $2.25/hr on average for the first child, and another $1.15 each additional child. That is for normal reasons. If it's due to bad weather & is something out of your control, I would say $25-$30/day is appropriate. If he is sick, then I would go a minimum of $40/day.
