Hormone Questions

I've been using a natural progesterone cream for about 2 years. Prior to using the cream, my prog levels were really low (tested w/ a saliva test kit_. So I found a doctor that prescribes the natural creams and I started using the natural progesterone cream. About a year ago I started feeling really strange with lots of anxiety and panic feelings. I have had panic attacks before - about 8 yrs ago they were the worst, but I was feeling great until about a year ago. I thought maybe I was in peri-menopause, but then realized it may be the natural progesterone cream that's affecting me. I went to my dr and we tested my hormone levels again w/a saliva test and my progesterone was too high - very high. She prescribed me some natural estrogen/testosterone cream. I haven't been using the progesterone cream as much and I use the estrogen cream occasionally. I don't really like having to use these creams to adjust my levels.
I think I would rather just get off both of the creams and see where my hormone levels end up naturally on their own. The creams aren't covered by insurance and neither are the saliva tests. And the saliva tests are really expensive, the creams are somewhat costly.

Has anyone else experienced this with the natural progesterone cream - first levels really low then really high?
What did you do?
I'm going to go see my dr, but I wanted to hear from others that may have gone through this to see what I can do.
Also, if my hormones end up being 'off' naturally without the creams, what are some alternatives I can use to help regulate them?
Overall I still feel very high anxiety and miserable right now. I went on a trip and felt so anxious the whole time. I think my hormones are still off and I just want to get regulated so I feel normal again.
Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

I would, really go see a Naturopath Doctor.
And it would be natural approaches, to hormone balance.
There are many things, other than the Progesterone creams, that can be used.

There are natural pills too. Such as "Vitex" (ie: Chasteberry) that is for hormone balance too. And "Dim-Plus" which is for estrogen balancing etc.
But these are just examples.

You should get a professional advice on anything you take.
A Naturopath, would have natural alternatives for you.
Versus a Medical Doctor.

My doctor tested my saliva and is giving me progesterone capsules. I asked her about the cream and she said she doesn't prescribe it because it is hard to regulate. Capsules are safer.

I have been having some issues with hormones as well and am pretty sure at the age of 43 that I am going through perimenopause; my mom went through menopause very early, starting in her late thirties. All lab tests state I'm "normal" when I feel anything but. However, regular lab tests won't "catch" anything until it's a disorder or a disease--meaning it's already so bad and so far gone that you have to use prescription drugs in order to "cure" it or "manage" it.

I don't believe in pharma drugs; I don't believe they cure anything. On my own I started using homeopathy drugs this spring, one for vaginitis (to help cure my yeast infections) and one for menstrual cramps. They're doing what I need them to do at the moment. If I start having any of the other menopause symptoms, like hot flashes or fuzziness or whatever it is that women get or feel when their hormones start shortcircuiting and going out, then I'll look at using something else for hormone regulation.

Homeopathic therapies will NOT harm you; your body only uses what it needs. If it doesn't need anything, then the medicine passes out of the body unused. I am feeling the best I've ever felt. Another natural remedy that helps a lot of women during the transitional/perimenopausal/
menopause time or with hormone irregularities in general is Maca Root. Oh boy, since I started using this wonderful herb/vege, I have been so much better.

You should be able to find both homeopathic medicines and Maca Root at Whole Foods or any natural/organic store.

I have been using a Natural Progesterone Cream (made with only natural herbs and botanicals, no fillers etc.) since July of 2002, I started using it for Migraines but it has helped way more than that. I have been fighting anxiety for about 15 months. Once I thought about it I hadn't been using my cream regularly I had all fo the same things you described, once the bulb went off I used 4 pumps of the cream the next day I was feeling great the dizziness and anxiety both were almost gone. My first question to women that are using a cream is have you read all of the ingredients and is it really completely natural? Did the Dr. prescribe it if it is a prescription cream it most likely isn't all natural and that could be the issue. Ask for the ingredient list. Natural Progesterone is GOOD progesterone it rids the body of Bad Progesterone and Bad Estrogen. Anyway are you seeing a therapist about the anxiety this can help a lot? Hormone's out of balance can cause this but usually it is caused from stress (which makes the hormones get out of balance )and some sort of past experince. Good Luck I hope you start feeling better soon. I also drink camomile tea and decaf green tea which has something ( I can't remember now what it is) to help with depression and anxiety both. I drink about 6 cups of each a day and it really helps. When I am stressed I double up on my cream sometime I use 4 pumps according to Dr. John Lee, MD you can't overdose on Progesterone the side effects of it are it makes you tired.

I went on estrogen and progesterone pills. Love it. I feel normal again for the first time in years.

Many years ago, I tried progesterone creme for a while. It did weird things to me. Never had my levels tested, though.

Just wanted to point out: "Natural" does not necessarily mean "good"! Poison I. is natural, and you wouldn't want to rub that all over your body! There are lots of natural plants and mushrooms that are totally toxic! Just because a product is labeled "natural" doesn't mean you should use it. Seek the advice of a professional if you have a physical or emotional problem. And get a second opinion if you can :)
