Hardwood Flooring Help Needed

Does anyone know how to spruce up hardwood flooring, or how to remove paint without having to resurface them? Last year I decided to pull up carpeting because I knew there was gorgeous hardwood flooring underneath and I was tired of vaccumming and cleaning up after my daughter everyday. Well, someone, at one time, decided to try and paint the flooring..sooo...there are huge paint marks up and down the hall, as well as the dining/living area. Does anyone have any suggestions? Someone mentioned there was a product out that would take stains out of hardwood, but I know nothing about remodeling. I can't afford to spend much, but my mom will soon be moving in, and I will be moving out, and I would really like it to look nice for her.

Also, since I am clueless, does it cost a lot to resurface the floors? Do you have to leave the home (like my dogs and daughter) while it's being done? If so, for how long? Thanks again!!

What can I do next?

M.,
Hi there, I am a bit of a do it myselfer, and my husband is a manager at PPG Paints - so I asked him about your problem. He said - It is costly to re-do the floors. Strip them and refinish. If you want to spruce if up w/o paying out to much, he said it is very cost effective to repaint the floors in a color of your choice. I have painted the concrete floors in our home, and it was pretty easy. As for the refinishing process - yes, you must remove you child and pets from home until done. Up to 2 weeks. Sorry it wasn't to reasuring!

you can rent the machine to redo the floor and yes you have to leave but once the varnish is down you can't walk on it for 24 hours not 2 weeks, my friend and her hubby did this in their home and my bil & sil just redid theirs (24 hours not 2 weeks)p.s. please don't paint hardwood floor it always looks horrible and in no way is it comparable to concrete floor.

Hi M.,

Last year, my husband and I used a company called Premier hardwood flooring. They are based out of Avon. We had three large rooms stripped down, cracks filled in with putty, restained and clear coated. It cost $1200. It took them 3 days. We had to move all of our furniture out of the affected areas, but other than that could stay in the house. You can not walk/put furniture back in for two additional days. The clear coat fumes were a bit strong so we left during those times. We also had to done in March so we couldn't just open the windows. By the way, my husband is very handy and looked into doing it himself. The cost of the supplies and renting the necessary tools was approximately $900. We figured the extra $300 was worth it. I hope this helps.

Hello M.. Only suggestion I have for you is to try Orange Glo Products and/ speak to someone a Lowe's or Home Depot for other product or resurfacing suggestions. Another choice would be to get some quotes from some professionals(just quotes, maybe even some suggestions)from ServiceMagic.com. It's a free service that will find persons in your area to give you quotes for work that you might need done. I personally have used them 2x and the work I had done turned out nice and was reasonable. I hope this might have helped. Good Luck!!
