What Was Your Major or Career?

I am 3 classes from getting my associates degree in general studies. Then, I will have to declare a major when I apply to a university. I know what I don't want to do (I am horrible at anything math related), but have no clue what I do want to do. I will get career counseling and take a personality test (myers briggs) to help me narrow it down. But I wanted to know *real world* experiences in the job field and if it relates to your major at all to give me some ideas, because I am stumped. So, if you feel like sharing. What did you major...

Reviews on Front Loading Washing Machine?

Our washing machine recently went out and we're looking at getting one of the front loading ones. We have been out to look at them and have read online reviews, but they are mixed. It seems there are almost an equal number of people that rave about them versus people who hate them and this is for all 3 major brands. I would love to know if any of you have purchased a front loading washer, what brand, what you like, and any problems you may have had. Thanks so much!

Sell House Rent Place

Did anyone ever just sell their house and rent a place even though you had the money to still keep your house? I feel owning a home is so expensive and one thing after another with a home it just keeps adding up and is so expensive. Also, I feel home ownership requires a lot of maintenace and fixing things up takes away time from kids. I also feel we would have so much more money if we didn't own a home! Yes, we could buy a much cheaper house too and have a much lower payment. However, is it crazy that I like the idea of renting since any...

Work, Maybe Stay Home, Career to Go in Just Not Sure??

I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. I have stayed home for 3 years now, and I love it but would eventually like to go back to work when my children go to school. I'm trying to figure out a good career to go in with kids. I mean what do you do with your kids all summer if you work. I have thought about going into teaching I have about 80 units, so I would have to go back to school, but I don't know if I could handle teaching. My husband makes pretty good money, but not enough for us to buy a house, we still live in an apartment. Can...

Guinea Pig or Hamster?

Ever since my 6 year old daughter visited my sister and fell in love with her chihuahua, she has longed for a dog she can have on her lap and carry around. She begs for one almost daily. We already have a dog (an older, grumpy border collie who's definitely not a cuddler), and often have my mom's dog over here due to her health problems. Hubby has refused to consent to another dog. So the compromise is either a guinea pig or hamster. Which is more tame/affectionate/cuddly, and is one "easier" than the other? I'm fully aware that I'll be...

Toys in Your Living Room?

People with small children and small houses: do you allow toys in your living room? I have 2 preschoolers and a 2 bedroom apartment. My youngest is moving into a big bed now which means even less space to play in their room. I suggested to my husband that we get some sort of toy shelf for the living room and he was adamently against it- he doesn't want our common area cluttered with play things. While I agree with him ideally, realisitically I don't think it's even fair to make them keep ALL their things in their room when pretty much...

How and When to Landscape??

Hi Moms, we moved into our home in September of last year. The landscaping out front was nonexistent. Since it was so late in the year we decided to hold off on doing anything about it. Well, spring is right around the corner and I have no idea when to plant or what to plant lol. We live on a very nice street, and all the houses are nicely landscaped and have lots of curb appeal. And then there is our drab front yard. I was thinking about some nice bushes and some pretty flowers. Can someone guide me because I am clueless? What...

Who Does the Holiday Decorating?

Happy holidays everyone! Question here... who does the holiday decorating in your home? Is putting up the Christmas tree a family effort that has evolved into a tradition? While I admit that I may decorate the inside and outside of my home more than the average person, I am feeling like I am a one woman operation. This year I tried to communicate to the hubby that I would like to decorate the tree with our two toddlers together. Needless to say, that didn't happen. I am feeling extra sad about it this year for some reason. I am so...

Home Maintenance Made Easy

A friend of mine will soon be a first time home owner. Having always lived in apartments myself, I know that there are regular maintenance jobs that go along with a home, or bleeding your radiators, cleaning the vents, chimney cleaning etc. who would a person turn to to learn how often that sort of thing has to be done and get a tutorial on how to do it? I am not in a position to advise. In the same way that I know that the oil in a car needs to be changed because the men in my life have always taken care of it, I wouldn’t know how often...

Rules for Adult Children Living at Home Regarding Boyfriend/girlfriend

My daughter is 20 years old living at home and working part time while attending college. I won't let her and her new boyfriend (22 years old) hang out in her bedroom (bedroom is upstairs) because I know what a bad habit that can turn Into. My mom let me and my sisters do this and our boyfriends practically moved in after that comfort level was allowed, and even with the door open things happen, if you know what I mean? I don't want to think about my children having sex in my house even if they are 20! They can save that for when they get...

Social Groups for 17 Year Old

Hi Moms, I need to find a place where my child can socialize without fear of her peers using drugs and alcohol. It seems to me that all her friends are into experimenting with drugs these days and she doesn't want to be involved with it. Unfortunately, in her social circle it's all around her. I suggested she go meet new friends, but at the tender age of 17, it's not so easy to do. Does anyone out there know of a very friendly, welcoming group that deals with this type of situation or other groups that socialize and discuss situations like...

What I need is an organization Nazi to help run my home office! What are some ideas for 1.) Getting motivated- I seem to be the best at being a creative procrastinator 2.) Getting my home office & spare room organized-office floor is covered in boxes of product inventory and paper stuff, spar bedroom serves as office storage 3.) KEEPING it clean & organzied. P.S. The rest of my house is not only picked up & orderly its clean too. Beds are always made, kitchen is always clean and tidy, pillows on couch straight etc. Any ideas will...
