Which type of thermometer is best for a toddler? I have an ear thermometer but have heard that they aren't accurate. Is the kind that you swipe across the forhead better?
I used and continue using the ear method. I find that it's accurate and easy to use and you won't wake them if they finally fall asleep. Technology has improved since my son was born 16 years ago. Hope this helps!

I have the thermometer you swipe across the forehead and I hate it. It is never accurate. I have a daughter that is two and the only thermometer I have found that I like is the old kind that I use under her arm. She's always been pretty cooperative in using it though. I hope this helps.
I use a regular thermometer and hold it under my sons arm pit. That's the way they do it at his day care as well. They typically tell you to add a degree to whatever the reading is.
We had one that you put on your temple. It did a good job as long as you put it in the right place.
Yes, the forehead type is better. They are more expensive, but research has shown they are the most accurate. Ear thermometers are influenced by things such as ear infections, etc. So you get the temperature of the infection, not of the child's overall body temperature.
For younger children, sometimes using a thermometer in the armpit can work, but good luck trying to get a toddler to sit still with something in their armpit. :)
