Hi Margarita;

I have four children and raised because I am a stay home mom. When I have party in my house, I always prefer and cook my own food. I am from Philippines so we love to cook and eat our own dishes. In your baby shower, you prefer and cook your own mexican dishes or appetizer, salad, desserts, just make it simple and tasty and yummy. Your guests will enjoy them the home made food at home. Then you can buy your own stuff for baby shower gift aways for your guest. Go to Michael or any other mexican party supplies and buy the baby shower gift aways to give to your guests as tradition to say thank you for coming to your baby shower party. Then you can make or buy a simple baby's stuff decorations to decorate your house. I suggested you to make your own like draw or cut a colorful baby's stuff like rattle, baby ballon, spoon, cup, plates, bib, baby shoe, then hang it and tie it with ribbon, hang it to your door, window, even hang a paper crepe with pink or blue, green, yellow color and hang it inside or outside your house where you will held your party. Then put 3/4 balllon and tie it outside your house so that people know that's the baby shower's house. I hope this will help you. Use paper plates and cups, platic forks and knifes so that it will be easy to clean up.

It's really up to you whether you want to serve a full meal or appetizers. I have had several babyshowers and we usually serve a full lunch BBQ - BBQ Chicken, rice, beans and salad or you could do simple hotdogs/burgers and chips. Hope you have fun - it's your special day.

Hi, usually it's your friends or relatives who hold the party for you. The food is dependent upon what time of day you hold it. If it's around lunchtime, then it's lunch food and if it's dinnertime, then dinner food. They always have a cake. Some people don't really have the money to spend feeding so many people so they will have it in the middle of the afternoon so they don't have to have a lot of food. It's such a personal thing that there's really no right or wrong way to hold one. Just do what makes you happy. Good luck!

Hi! A buffet is the easiest and most practical thing to do. You can do a delicious Nacho buffet with black beans, cheese, ground meat, shredded carrots, shredded cabbage or lettuce, olives, guacamole, green and red salsa and chips. You put each item in a bowl and let everyone make their own nacho salad, its so delicious! Serve some bowls of fresh fruit on the side such as pineapple and watermelon and have a large pitcher of water with thin slices of lemon, limes and cucumbers. Everyone will love it!!!!

If you're going to be hosting the shower yourself, than go with something simple; less work for you. Serve cold cuts & deli style cheese platters with rolls, a cracker/cheese platter and some veggie/fruit/chip platters each with their own dip. I suggest making a big batch of fruit punch for all to self serve. Make some salads (macaroni, pasta, potatoe, ambrosia) a day or 2 in advance so all you have to do is serve the day of the shower.....no cooking. I have some punch, dip & salad recipes to share. If you're interested, let me know. Congratulations & happy showering!

I wish I spoke Spanish! I hope you can read this.

You do not need to serve any food if you don't want to. Usually, at a baby shower you would serve some kind of drinks (soda, juice, punch or lemonade are fine) and cake. If you want to, you can serve sandwiches, fruit, cut up vegetables or chips. It doesn't have to be fancy! Have fun.

And in english

For a baby shower you will need:

1) You happy and ready to have some fun. :) (This is a joyful time for the mother, to celebrate her new growing life with friends & family!)

2) Food - snack foods, chips, crackers, sliced cheese, (buy the big block and use a cheese slicer so cheap and easy!) fruit or veggies, (for fruit - I would say just get some oranges and slice them up or some water melon, for veggies - just go with some ranch and a broccoli crown chop it up for smaller pieces, place ranch in a plastic container for people to pour from onto their plates. Also carrot sticks are great too.)

3)Go to smart & final get a huge bag of paper plates and paper cups! And some forks!

4)A cake - store bought is easy and simple and they make em look so great and albertsons has yummy cakes with great decorations! Or go to a local bakery I know those still are around. LOL (just do this 3 days before baby shower and have a final head count!)

5)Some thank you cards & maybe some baby shower games or gifts try Micheal's or wal-mart.

6) Some pink and blue balloons (of which ever colors you like.) blow them up and tape them to where your party is. (use duck tape if outdoors!) And some streamer's are nice but a pain its your choice. And maybe a center piece even just a paper one with some confetti or glitter around it. And a table cover that is plastic or throw away or washable kind.

I hope this helps, good luck dear. Dont be scared to ask friends and family for help because thats the whole point of the baby shower is just food, family & friends. Celebrating your new life that will be born very soon. So if you cant afford any of it just have some dinner with your family and make sure to go to the 99 cent store and get some thank you cards for any gifts & anyone who comes.

Hi Margarita:

It depends on the time of day your shower is. If it is a luncheon type shower, you could get away with a lovely fresh fruit salad and Lasagna and a green salad. You could have a cake for dessert, but I like to change it up a little and make mini fruit tarts, some brownies and some type of cookies. For a beverage I like to serve lemonade as well as water with lemon & lime slices in the water.

I hope this helps!

you can do just about anything you want to do. If you choose to have your shower around lunchtime, you could get already prepared trays of veggies with dip, sandwiches, fruit. Costco is a great place for that sort of thing. If you wanted to do it earlier or later you could skip the sandwiches and serve appetizers only. Lemonade, coffee, coffee cake etc. Make it easy though and if you have a hostess, have her do most of the preparation for you so you can just relax. Have fun!

Hi Margarita,
You can make easy things for your shower. Buy some chips and make a few different types of dips. Veggies are always great too. Cut up some fresh fruit or buy some strawberries and put them in a pretty bowl. You can make finger sandwiches. Some with ham/cheese or turkey, even tuna. Cut the sandwhiches into small squares or whatever shape you want and put an olive on top of each with a tooth pick. For drinks you can make a punch drink in a big punch bowl. One of my favorties is Hawaian Punch with seven up and sherbert Ice cream. You just mix those ingrediants together. Set up your table with a nice table cloth and put some fresh flowers around your food.

Good luck

Felicidades.

Hola Margarita,
Remember that you want to enjoy your baby shower so the least you do the better it is for you. Albertson's food/deli department has great catering menu ideas (salads, chicken, sandwhiches, cake, fruit, cheese platters, etc.) Choose your food depending on the hour of your shower, For example, around noon time consider a lunch menu, for afternoon consider some light pasta dishes. The key is for you to have fun and be catered to, maybe family members can help out with coordinating the shower.

Some do veggie trays, pasta salads, cheese platters..Rolls with sandwhich meat, and cheese for mini sandwhiches. You could probably go to a near by wal mart and look at their platter selections. Usually they have books for you to look at and pick from and they are pretty inexpensive.

Hello my name is A. and I am from Costa Rica. I have hosted many many showers and i'm helping my friend with her's. We are doing a Hawaiian theme. I love to plan parties my mom has had so many I have learned from her. I do recomend to go with the colors of the same theme of your bedding of your crib. Same colors like pink,yello,blue....
As for food it depends what time you want to have your shower if it's at 11am then a light lunch or 2 a light dinner.
Lunch- If you go to Costco you can find lot's of things to serve like meatballs salad (from Costco it's all put together for you and all you have to do is mix it up) shrimp, sushi, fruit platter sandwich croissant but cut them in half there big.
Dinner-Would recommend something different then Mexican like Bar B Q or Pasta and salad.

Let me know if you have anymore ?'s would love to help out...

Dear Margarita, One idea is to have a brunch baby shower. Ask a friend or family member if they have one of those belgium waffle makers that make good and fast waffles. If so, that is a great basis that your friend could make and you could provide fresh fruit, whipped cream and syrup and butter for toppings on the side. You could also have tea and juice for drinks. The rest of the food could be potluck, where everyone else brings a brunch dish to share. I have gone to one baby shower and thrown one for my sister that was like this and it was wonderful.-AM

Hello Margarita....One of my baby showers, my mother made it very simple for me. I am also mexican and she or we served tostadas. We purchased Guerrero tostadas and she had chicken salad for the tostadas or shredded chicken with all the other ingredients to go with them such as shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, tomatoes, onions and lettuce. Everyone loved my mum's tostadas.

If you want to get more fancy, purchase boneless ribs (I purchase at Costco)marinate them with Worchester Sauce over night. The day of your party, cut them in slices and put them in a crock pot and fill with bbq sauce and cook them. They come out soooooo tender and juicy. You can serve vegtebles and either potato salad or mashed potatoes. I guarantee either one will be delicious..

Just some food for thought....take care and all the best in the upcoming of your blessing.

Querida Margarita,
Buena suerte,
E.M.

If it's your shower, you can do whatever you want - there are no wrong answers. I had two showers: one with traditional Mexican food (which is my favorite). My friend, who is Mexican, made everything. My second shower had a Caribbean theme: caribbean food, fun punches and even reggae music.

first - congratulations on your new baby. As for food, I would suggest to consider your budget, the amount of people attending and the time you will have your shower. If you feel confortable I would suggest a variety of foods. Maybe a few salads: pasta salad, green salad, chicken and Tuna salad. also ships and dips and salsa's. If time and budget allows, you can order fried chicken from a local market. A variety of breads/rolls. For additional side dishes you can try rice and beans. for those who do not care for cake as a dessert, try a jello dish or flan-hope this helps

Hi Margarita,
I am sorry I don't speak Spanish. But I just gave a baby shower, and what I did was serve finger foods-ie pre made tacos (small ones) with guacamole; pre made quiche, and small pizzas. You will need a cake and something to drink. Make it easy on yourself, and get plastic forks and knives. Hope this helps!

Margarita,

A baby shower is always given by the mother's friends, not by the mother herself. You don't have to provide any food because it shouldn't be at your house. (Giving a shower for yourself is just asking your friends for gifts, and of course you wouldn't do that.)

L.

Hello, I'm confused...are you planning a baby shower for yourself? Typically, a close friend, coworker or family member would throw YOU a shower...that's the idea, they are showering you with presents, you are the guest of honor and you don't plan a thing. Perhaps ask a relative, church friend or close friend if they could help you.
