Have you ever smelled something bad in your house and can't figure out what it is?

With my allergies, I often have trouble telling what smell it is or where its's coming from. Some examples are a purse that had a sippy cup spilled in it(even after it went through the wash), the doorbell that got stuck on and almost caught on fire, wet laundry that sat too long before being dried. Once it was a new brand of deodorant- I went all around the house trying to figure out what the smell was and of course the smell went with me! Today it was a mint smell- I couldn't figure it out, thought it might be toilet bowl cleaner or medicine or something. So I took a shower and changed clothes. It turned out to be from hiding mint chewing gum in my underwear drawer!

What can I do next?

Just be thankful it's not a dead rat in your attic . . . (speaking from experience). Worst smell ever.

YES!! I've got a sinus infection, and I kept asking my husband 'do you smell that?! It smells like lemon pledge'... we're house sitting, and I wanted to make sure the kids or the dogs didn't get into some cleaning supplies. Like I said, my sniffer's kind of broken anyway, so my husband just thought I was nuts. I was like 'it's YOU dude!!'... he laughed and said 'Honey, I've been working all day, I smell like sweat and dirt and man'... I was like 'No, it's you, you smell like lemon pledge!'... he joked 'Yeah, it must have come off the stripper I had over for lunch (he was home for lunch, LOL)'... I was like 'NO IT'S YOU! YOU SMELL LIKE LEMON PLEDGE, right there!' and I pointed to a spot on his pants. He sniffed it, made a face, and says 'OMG R. you're loosing it, that's TURPENTINE I spilled earlier!!'

T. - sounds like you had a DOH! moment!! :) I had one yesterday!!

I know what you mean though - a few years ago my kids were potty training and their bathroom smelled NASTY...they were supposed to be using the little Sesame Street portable one - but they were using the toilet and not flushing...it only took about 6 hours of it sitting there (guess they were BOTH using it) to figure it out! URGH!!!]

I've had the chewing gun in the dryer....that was nasty...
I've had the RED coloring crayon in the dryer too....

When it's a good smell I don't even try. I enjoy it. Bad smells such as those from rotten food and work on finding it until I do. It's usually not easy to find it.
