That Baby Smell

my sister left some diapers at my house and now it smells like baby. that got me thinking that maybe the baby smell has more to do with what we are putting on our babies rather than what they naturally smell like. people in other countries must use other products so do their babies smell differently? or do babies really all have the same baby smell? can anyone with experience with babies in other countries chime in?

--ETA: clean diapers

To me 'that baby smell' - is the scent I use to get from the top of my son's head when he was less than a year old.
It was like inhaling youth - but was probably some sort of mother bonding pheromone.

I agree with B. It's that top of the head smell. Well, top-of-the-head smell mixed in with a bit of sour milk.

I think what you are smelling is either poop/urine or baby products. The wonderful baby smell that others are describing below can only be smelled on the actual baby. The rest is byproducts.

I think the "baby smell" is the smell of fresh washed baby, right out of the tub. No lotion, no powder, no scented soap (I used unscented soaps). I think that smell would be universal.

Man, I love diapering my nearly 2 year old after a bath and just sniffling him all over while he's chilling lay on the changing table. I did it to may daughter too, but now she's OLD. :) 8y.o.
