Seeking a Back-up Dr. for Our Homebirth in Encino/Tarzana Area

Hello Moms. My husband and I are planning another homebirth for our 2nd baby and just moved to the Encino area. We need a back-up Ob/Gyn that has Tarzana hospital privileges. Basically, we would need a back-up Dr. in case of emergency if we have to go to the hospital and deliver. The last one we had was in Burbank but we are so close to Tarzana that that is the fastest hospital for us to use just in case.

Please let me know if you know of a Dr. that does this. My midwife is from the Glendale/Pasadena area and doesn't know of any near here.

Thanks, D.

What can I do next?

It was so funny reading your request because i know another women your age, around your age, just moved to studio city/encino who recently had her second child at home, loved her midwives, had the same questions about a doctor, and did the research. I just mentioned to kristen, that this group existed and was going to invite her. I have not been very active as i am going through a very difficult divorce , twenty eight years to a wonderful man , two kids, 24,16, and he went unrecognizable on me well i am starting to reinvent myself in so many ways. I have been very focused on my business, ironically it is divorce prevention. I know it is something people do not think about at your wonderful and very magical stage in your marriage, just make sure you take time for your marriage without the kids. Anyway call kristen she just had a huge beautiful baby boy, she has been asked to join the group of midwifes she used. She has so much knowledge and experience it would be great for both of you. Her number is ###-###-####. Hey let me know what comes of it, if anything. Good luck to you, be looking out for my dream that i am finally going to realize. After twenty eight years of practicing, teaching suprvising on and on, my goal has been to promote the health and welfare of children, through my psycotherapy practice with families and couples. I am starting the robbins-madanes center in santa monica
in colaboration with toni robbins the motivational speaker and cloe madanes, world renouned theorist and teacher of strategic couples/family systems psychotherapy. I am developing the web site as we speak and i will describe the services on m profile page, so look for it sometime next week

Hi D.. Coudos to you and your husband for planning a homebirth. We had a water homebirth with our 2nd baby also (who's now a healthy and happy 17 month old girl) and it was the most amazing birthing experience ever. I only wish all Moms could experience this joy of giving our children the best healthy start in the world. Anyway, my Ob/Gyn was Dr.David Kline. He's based in the Century City/West L.A. area and has rights to Cedars/Sinai. He is awesome!!! I gave birth at home in South Pasadena. Cedars Sinai was a bit far from home. But, I wasn't worried as I didn't think about any emergencies. Neither did my midwife (Diane West - she has different last name now) who was based in Glendale also. My husband, Dr. Mike (he's a chiropractor) knows of a midwife in your area who probably knows of several good backup doctors. Please try to give him a call for that midwife's information. His number is ###-###-####. Tell him it's a favor from his wife. Ha, ha. He gets these calls from my Mamasource mommies all the time so he's used to it. He's glad to help. Give it a try. Congratulations!!

Dear D.,
Greetings!!!

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR VERY EXCITING NEWS!!! And, it's AWESOME that you're planning on another HOME BIRTH! : )))

I definitely second Shannon and Emma's suggestion of Dr. Mike.

I also highly recommend contacting my amazing midwife, Tonya Brooks, who is located in Sherman Oaks, with your question. I experienced the most naturally incredible pregnancy and birth with her as my midwife!

Here's her data:
