Hi,
I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and my baby is breech. I wasn't too concerned up until this point, but my midwife suggested at my last appt. that I see a chiropractor. I was wondering if anyone has done the Webster method with a chiropractor and any advice that might help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all the great advice! I'm happy to say that I'm now 36 weeks and she did turn on her own into the correct position. I tried doing visualization exercises while listening to birthing hypnosis cd's and it seemed to really work. I wasn't able to follow through with the hypnosis method when I birthed my son but I highly recommend the cd's to anyone who is pregnant and needs help relaxing and sleeping at night. Thanks again!

It is a bit early to worry, I think. I know folks who've had good results with Webster and moxibustion. Have you seen spinningbabies.com?

I was breech as well at 30 weeks. My daughter turned at 34 weeks. I worried just like you. Look on the web for different solutions such as: chiropractor, laying on my back with my head dropped of the bed, etc... Didn't try none of these techniques. I did sleep partially on my stomach (don't know if that worked). Don't worry... You still have time. Whatever technique you choose is not a definite solution. And even if your child wasn't breech now, he/she can still turn. So again...Relax and give your baby a few more weeks.

My son was frank breech til about 36 weeks. My mother (a LaMaze instructor) and sister (Labor and Delivery nurse) gave me some exercises to do at home to encourage him to flip over. He did eventually. I am not familiar with the webster method...but the exercises worked for me! Maybe your midwife can offer some suggestions. Good Luck!

My 2nd daughter hadn't turned around by a certian time so my midwife told me to do the angry cat exercise - and it actually worked during the 2 week period until I had to go back for my checkup with her, but don't stress anything well at least try not too I know it's hard but hang in there and maybe if anything ask or doctor or midwife about the angry cat exercise it's easy to do and just may work

its never too early to get adjusted for a breech baby. i was breech at 31 wks and began going to my chiro who thanked me profusely for not waiting. waiting only makes it more difficult for the baby to turn, its getting bigger every day and there isn't much room inside you for acrobatics to begin with. it did take awhile, she was 36-37 wks before she turned, but whether it was the chiro or something else it gave me piece of mind that i was doing what i could.

Hi

You may want to wait a little longer. My baby was also breeched but he turned around on his own at about 33 weeks. He has stayed that way ever since.

Chiropractors who know what they are doing does very well with turning the baby. You can also try moxibustion which has a pretty good success rate. With moxibustion, you don't want to do it to much because it'll just keep turning the baby. So do it once and then see where the baby is at. If you need resources to chiropractors or moxibustion in the Philadelphia area, I can email them to you.

I have not known anyone personally who has used it by I saw it used on "A BABY STORY" twice and it worked both times so it seems like a reliable method I would deffinetly give it a try.

As many other moms have said, 30 weeks is a little early to start getting worried, and even if baby turns now, she could turn back. Chiropractic is wonderful not only for turning babies, but for pregancy health in general, so I would consider it now anyway.
There are a couple of techniques that you can try at home yourself too. Try holding a flashlight while dad talks or plays music low on your belly. If you know how the baby is facing you can try holding an ice pack on the back of her head at the same time. She will move from the uncomfortable ice to the comforting light and sounds. Also, the breech tilt is a great position for encouraging turning. You lay either on a sturdy board (like an ironing board) that is propped on the couch, with your feet above your head, or with your hips propped on pillows 12-18 inches. You could also lay forward on your knees, so that your belly is between your thighs, and your head is on the floor. Try laying in one of these positions 10-20 minutes 3times a day. It is most effective when done with an empty bladder and stomach during baby's active times.

Again, anytime before 34-36 weeks or so the baby is very likely to be flipping back and forth, so don't get overconcerned right now. Anything that you do right now could be undone just because baby is still small enough to move around alot.

Have you heard of the breech tilt exercise? I've read about that in various childbirth books, but never had a breech to turn myself. If you talk to your midwife and give it a go, I would incorporate some visualization as well, of the baby turning into head down position while inverted on the ironing board or whatnot and even when just sitting upright. Working with mind over matter! I had an amazing natural birth using self-hypnosis techniques and I work with guided imagery and Reiki and have definitely seen complementary modalities work some magic! Ask for baby's cooperation as well! I've also heard of people shining a flashlight low in the pelvis and playing music low down to encourage baby to turn toward the light and sound. Good luck!

Hi there,
My husband is a chiropractor in Uniontown and he is all for the Webster method. I recently had our third child and I was adjusted the entire time I was pregnant with all of them and not only did the babies turn when they should my labors were unbelievalby easy because my pelvis was straight and made a open runway for the baby to come out... So I would advise all pregnant women to be checked by a chiropractor. I mean think how much your bones are moving around getting ready for little one, it would relieve so much pressure on you to get checked too. If you have any questions let me know I can give you his number and he would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have..

I haven't dealt with a midwife in my pregnancy as both of my previous and my current pregnancies have been full of minor complications (gestational diabetes and hypothyroidism and many of their side effects). With my second pregnancy, my son was in a breech position (not one of the complications) on and off throughout the pregnancy and was still in a breech position 2 weeks before he was born. My doctor tried to manipulate him twice (once each week for two weeks) prior to the induction of my labor (due to gestational diabetes, at 39 weeks). He wouldn't budge for the doctor. However, a few days before the induction, he changed positions on his own.

I guess what I am trying to say is that no matter what you decide to do, relax. Talk to both your midwife and the chiropractor she recommends and ask any and all questions you have about the procedure before having it done. If they can't answer all of your questions, get a second opinion as well. Also, you could ask them to refer your name and phone number to a former patient who has had this done and is willing to share her experience with you. Although I'm wondering if at 30 weeks it may be a little early for them to worry so much about the position. Your little girl may still be moving around and changing positions quite a bit. Did your midwife say when she recommended having this done? I guess my main concern is if you have this done now at 30 weeks with 7-10 weeks left to go in the pregnancy, doesn't that give the baby a whole lot of time to wiggle her way back into breech position?

I hope that the information I've shared about my own experiences has helped you. Please try to not be too concerned but make sure that all of your concerns and questions are answered to your satisfaction as well. It is your body and your child and you should be able to ask any and all questions from the practitioners you are using so that you can go into any procedure fully informed and knowing you made the right decision for yourself.

When I was pregnant one of my twins was breech. I didn't do anything about it but it did make final the decision about c-section. Now other things developed after birth with the breech baby. She had tight neck muscles in one side and i was told it was due to her being breech (it got corrected with physical therapy).

I am 30 weeks as well and my baby is also breech. My OB told me not to worry about it. He doesn't do anything until 32 or 34 weeks. Before that, there is a high probability the baby will revert back to breech. At 34 weeks, he said they start monitoring the baby more and considering an external version where he uses his hands to push on your stomach and turn the baby (usually done around 36 weeks). It is done in the hospital for two reasons (1) so they can monitor the baby and you and (2) in case for some reason something goes wrong, they can do an immediate emergency c-section. The success rate of the external version is pretty good though. I'm not familiar with the Webster method.
