26 Weeks Pregnant - HUNGRY

Anyone out there at this point in their pregnancy experiencing the same?

It seemed like for weeks I could eat normally and not even need extra calories. Now I'm famished all the time. And tired too. Is it the baby growth spurt? When will the spurt go away?

And on top of that, everytime I eat something I get awful heartburn.

URG... I'm so ready to be done with pregnancy!

What can I do next?

Then eat! Eat something healthy and filling... like hummus and veggies or hummus and pita bread. Or avocado.

Heartburn happens in pregnancy... that's why they make Tums! LOL! Sorry, it's just a fact to deal with during pregnancy.

Drink lots of water too! That helps with hunger.

Good luck and enjoy :)

I'm at 36 weeks right now - I just got over the having to eat in the middle of the night. I did have heartburn for a while also - they say eating smaller meals more often helps with that. The baby developes so fast that it does need extras now & then... at parts of my pregnancy I didn't want to eat anything & had to almost force myself to eat, where as at other parts I felt like I was eating everything I saw all day long.

I've been trying to eat a bit more healthy by snacking on fruits, veggies, yogart, how grains & cereal bars, but I do still eat some cookies, cakes & ice cream.

Till the baby starts to drop the heartburn my continue, but if you watch what you eat - you maybe able to see if there is on or so foods that bother you more then others. Which if you are able to pinpoint the foods, then you can reduce the heartburn by not eating the ones that really bother you.

Personnaly - my issue is that I have been having pre-term labor issues (not false labor issues) for about 4 weeks now... so I have to watch what I'm doing. But 34 weeks is the safe mark and I'm past that & 37 weeks is considered full term, so I've almost made it to full term.

You're baby will be here soon... take care of yourself & do rest as much as you can. Oh, it is normal to feel more tired at your stage & till the end... since it is harder to get settled in & stay there, plus I don't know about you, but I'm up atleast 3 times a night to run to the restroom.

Congratz on the little one!

Also, try to eat frequently throughout the day. Small little snacks 6-8 times a day. Avoid drinking too much when you eat. Try to get your fluids between meals.

It could be a period of development. Also...if you were normal/below weight before you got pregnant and you haven't gained much yet...it may just be your time to pack on a few survival pounds.

Don't worry too much about it. Fill up with lean protein, vegetables, and whole grains. High fat content, sometimes dairy, and acidic foods of course will exacerbate the problem.

I think it was around that time period during both of my pregnancies where I would wake up in the middle of the night and feel absolutely famished. Never happened to me before and hasn't happened to me since. Usually a yogurt was all that was needed to take the edge off my hunger until morning. The middle of the night hunger pangs eventually went away within 3 or 4 weeks and I really couldn't eat a whole lot at any one time because, like you I was prone ot some pretty bad heartburn. Let's just say that me and Tums became pretty good friends while I was pregnant . . .

Hope you feel better soon.

Oh just wait girl! I know this is probably contrary to most advice, but INDULGE! Pregnancy is the time I can eat, and not feel guilty. I am 38 weeks, and I've gained 36 pounds so far. But I always lose it within about 6 weeks after baby. If you're hungry, eat! As far as heartburn, check with your doctor about taking prilosec. I take it, and it's wonderful! I know some doctors say yes, and some say no.

Being tired is very normal during pregnancy. You are manufacturing a human being! What a job! Sleep and eat when you need to, because after baby comes, you'll have no time for either. Good luck : )

My OB just told not to drink much when I eat a meal, it fills the stomach up too much and causes heartburn. Eat small meals throughout the day also, that helps a ton. Maalox is safe to take during pregnancy, it just killed the heartburn that I had. Tums are not as helpful. Hang in there! Carry healthy snacks with you if you are away from home so you don't drive through somewhere because you feel so famished!

I got tired of 'eating' so I drank a few Ensures a day during my pregnancies......even had one in an ice bucket for middle of the nights when I needed it. Two seconds and I was done.......hang in there.

If its any consolation, its completely true (scientifically proven) that if you have bad heartburn during pregnancy, you're most likely carrying a little babe with a head full of hair. :)
I know it seems like it's taking forever, but hang in there! It's only a little while longer and then you'll have a completely different set of issues! lol
As far as the eating thing goes, the last trimester is when the baby puts on most of its weight, so it makes sense that you're needing more calories. :) Eat healthy foods and enjoy your quiet time! :)

I've had two children and have lost two children. All four times I had spells where I didn't really want to eat anything, times when I ate normally, and times when I was SO INCREDIBLY hungry. I believe the baby is going through growth spurts at these times and your body is needing the extra fats to help the baby develop properly. Don't feel bad about eating more than normal. Do NOT starve yourself because your body is telling you it needs the food. Eat healthily though! Otherwise you will be packing on unwanted/unnecessary pounds. Give the baby those good vitamins, etc. Also, whatever you eat during pregnancy is what the baby prefers after birth so start it on a healthy track now.

Also, try watermelon for the heartburn. I had bad heartburn with our son and ate 1 1/2 LARGE watermelons a week. Watermelon is healthy for the baby, helps with heartburn, and it helps keep your water weight down.

I go like that all the time! One day I really dont eat much more than normal then the next I cant stop eating all day! And everything I eat gives me heartburn and has for a long time! Try taking otc pepcid 2x a day, stay away from cafeine, chocolate:( and acidic foods. Also I try not to eat at least an hr before bed and not to lay down after I eat. I know its tough but you gotta hang in there! I am almost 39 weeks with my 3rd and none of them have been easy but well worth it in the end! Good luck!

Totally normal. Just eat many small HEALTHY snacks throughout the day. If a certain food is more prone to giving you heartburn than another, then avoid it. Not drinking during your meal, but a while after is great idea, as someone already mentioned.

Also, part of your hunger could be your body's way of searching for a nutrient that you might be lacking. Taking a prenatal, if you are not already, may help with this.
